Blog Post #2

In the Article “I once was miss America” Roxanne Gay talks about her childhood and how she was kind of an outcast and not very popular in high school. After she saw Vanessa Williams to become the first black woman to win miss America, Roxanne Gay felt like she was more powerful and beautiful as a young black woman herself. After reading this article I felt like everyone should read a story like this one because I know that a lot of high school students and young people in general have a need to have their image look upon as good looking and popular but I feel like kids focus on that too much and start to live a life that is fake and doing things only to get the approval of their peers. Many students in schools feel lonely and feel like there’s nobody who likes them because of other students putting them down to raise their own self esteem and that can lead to problems like suicide and mental issues like depression.
