Chapter 2 of the Bedford book of Genres is about narrative Genres. It talks about how we share stories every day and how most stories are composed of characters, a setting, a conflict, and an action. Personally, I never really thought about it like that when I write. the chapter also talks about the purpose for telling stories. Usually people tell stories to persuade, Entertain, or Inform someone about something. Then it talks about how there is always some form of a target audience. One thing that stood out to me in this chapter was when it said that readers must connect with a text personally. I can really see that because I love reading things that I can have a connection to. When I write I try to make my essays into something relatable because I feel like it makes the readers want to read more and see what else they can relate to. Not even just narrative wise, even the way I word my sentences in a not too formal manner, I feel makes people more comfortable when they’re reading my writings. I want my essays to really portray my voice when people read what I have to say.
